Soap Notes + Google Docs

Pull session notes and content from Google Docs into Soap Notes.

If your existing workflow lives in Google Docs, you don't need to abandon it. The Google Docs integration links any Doc to a client or session in Soap Notes. Edits in Docs flow back into Soap Notes. Share selected Docs with clients via the client portal. Useful for transcripts, action plans, or coaching frameworks you maintain in Docs.

What this integration does

  • Link any Google Doc to a client or session record
  • Edits in Docs sync back to Soap Notes automatically
  • Share selected Docs with clients via the portal
  • Search Doc content alongside Soap Notes content
  • Convert Doc content into a SOAP note with one click

How to connect Google Docs

3 steps. Around two minutes.

  1. 1

    Connect Google Drive

Settings → Integrations → Google Docs → Connect. Approve Drive read access (Docs are stored in Drive).

  2. 2

Link a Doc to a client

Open any client → Documents → Link Google Doc → paste the Doc URL or pick from a list.

  3. 3

    Edit anywhere

Make changes in Google Docs or in Soap Notes, both stay in sync. The latest version is always available in both places.

What you are approving

These are the exact permissions the consent screen asks for, and what each one is for.

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/documents
Read and write access to Google Docs, which is what lets Soap Notes create a Doc against a client and read back the edits you make in Docs. This is the broader of the two Docs scopes Google offers, because a read-only one could not create the document in the first place.

Where it stops

  • Editing happens in Google Docs, not inside Soap Notes. The link opens the Doc rather than embedding an editor.
  • A Doc deleted in Drive shows as unavailable here until you restore it from trash.
  • Sharing a Doc with a client through the portal still depends on the Doc's own Google permissions.

If you disconnect it

Docs already linked to a client stay linked, and the documents themselves are untouched in your Drive. What stops is the sync, so edits you make in Docs after disconnecting will not be reflected in Soap Notes, and you can no longer create a new Doc from a client record.

Frequently asked questions

Only Docs you explicitly link to a client. We don't browse your Drive, only the Docs you choose are accessible.

The link in Soap Notes shows an unavailable state. Restore the Doc from Drive trash and the link reactivates.

Yes. Open any client → Documents → Create new Doc. The Doc is created in your Google Drive and pre-linked to the client.
